Day 46 - Tuesday 6th June 2023

Today we'd be flying from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney with Malaysian Airlines.

The flight was due to depart at 9:10am and so it was another early start. Alarm at 5am, check-out at 6am, buggy ride to the departure gates. There was no delay at check-in or immigration.

Then we had to catch a bus to the Terminal C gates. Apparently, you normally get a metro type train there but it wasn't operating at that hour. We reached the business class lounge at about 6:45.

We left the lounge at 8:15 for the long walk to the departure gate where we had to go through security. Boarding commenced at 8:45.

The seats were all facing forward rather than on an angle or in a cubicle. It wasn't a full flight - there were lots of empty seats.

It had lap-sash seat belts like one of the early flights with Japan Airlines. Unlike a sash that goes across your chest in a car, this sash goes across your neck. It's not comfortable. Imagine sitting in one place for eight hours with a belt across your neck.

The departure was delayed. The plane pulled back from the terminal at 9:30 and eventually took off at 10:00. There was a queue of planes waiting to take off.

The menu was quite limited and there was no wine list.

They provided a meal after take-off. I decided to have a club sandwich and coffee rather than the main courses on the menu that didn't appeal to me. I had the advantage of being in seat 1A and so I got served first.

We encountered a lot of turbulence in the flight. The seat belt sign was on several times for about 30 minutes at a time.

One of the benefits of business class usually is not having to queue for a toilet but there were only two toilets which wasn't enough.

Before landing, they served another meal of satay sticks. They offered a drink and Suzy asked if they had any wine (because there was no drinks or wine list). She ordered a glass of shiraz and I had one (or two) too.

Every airline is different. Malaysian Airlines wouldn't be near the top of the list but they were better than some like Portugal Airways. The best was Qatar when they had Qatari staff.

Despite the delayed start, we landed at 7:15pm at Mascot. The immigration, customs, baggage etc was very smooth and we caught a taxi at 7:50.

We were home at 8:30 after a fabulous holiday. Milo was very pleased to have us home at last.
